5 Steps Design A Flag

There are so many companies who excel at producing custom flags. The custom flags could be used for promotion, symbolism, or simply to have fun. Some big companies even have their own flag for their symbol. This will prove their power and the quality in the business. The sign that they’re proud of their achievement. Some clubs for certain community sometimes also have their own flags. Right now, we’d like to share some info about how to design a flag. Let’s check this out :

1. Choose a concept

The first thing in every design or production process is by deciding the concept that you want to make. For flags, you should choose what kind of message that your flags would be able to present to the public. A flag could represent many things such as real nations, micronations, nationalism, fictional land, company, patriotism, a government division, and many other things. Your flag should be able to represent your place or society and also easily recognizable.

2. Choose the shape

Imagine how the shape gonna be when it’s finished. The most common shapes are the square and rectangular. The recommended portion that it’s should be 1 : 1.5 or 1 : 1.67 for the rectangular flags. Although it doesn’t mean that your flag should be rectangular.

3. Decide the flag’s design

The most recommended designs for a flag are the borders, stripes, quarters, colors, and tricolors. While you can fill the background color of the flag with the solid color, the symbol should be unique and also has the different color. Feel free to put the symbol where ever you think is good to see. Although you can also try to have a rectangle in the upper left corner which is called canton to put a symbol in it just like the flag of The United States.

4. Use only two colors

The most common coloring for a flag is usually just with 2 colors. Not only that will make your flag more solid and simpler, it’s also didn’t confusing for the people who see it. You have to make sure that each color that you put on the flag has its own meaning. For the example, if your place is near a forest, then you can use the green color for the back ground. The most common color to be used are red, yellow, green, blue, black, and white. You may search the meaning of those colors on the internet to understand more about them.

5. Put your symbol

This is optional but will help people to recognize your flag from the ones which looks similar with yours. The symbol must has the correct meaning of the place or something that you want to present with it. A red cross could represent health care while helping hands could represent charity.
